AI projects,
from ciphers
to satellites.

Research experiments and tools I build with AI models, mostly Claude by Anthropic. Everything here is free to explore, and new projects are added as soon as they are finished.

Projects

Who is receiving us right now?

About 109,000 real stars as a cloud you can fly through, and in the middle a glowing sphere: the front of our radio and TV signals, spreading at the speed of light for over 100 years. A time slider picks the broadcast year, the stars it hits light up – and with your birth year you see where your broadcasts are arriving right now.

  • 109kreal catalogue stars
  • 126 lyradius of the oldest front (1900)
  • 759confirmed exoplanets within 130 light-years

Where does the power come from right now?

Germany and Austria as a 3D landscape: wind turbines turn at the real feed-in, solar fields glow, cooling towers and gas plants steam with their load, water runs through the Alpine reservoirs, and power flows across the borders to the neighbours. The grid frequency runs as a pulse of light through the lines, and a time slider replays the last seven days.

    • 2countries: Germany and Austria

Live space weather – and aurora where you are?

The solar wind as it hits Earth right now: a particle stream built from NOAA readings squeezes Earth's magnetic shield, and the aurora oval glows on the globe. A countdown shows when the latest reading arrives, and a tap on the globe tells you the aurora chance at any place.

Earthquakes from the inside: a see-through Earth

A see-through Earth: every earthquake of the last 24 hours sits at its true depth, and for a strong quake the P and S waves run through mantle and core. See the shadow of the liquid core, a countdown to your place and 50 years of quake records in which the sinking plates become visible.

          The galaxy of meaning

100,000 German words as a star cluster: every word is a point of light, and words with similar meaning sit together. Fly through, search a word to see its neighbours, draw a sentence as a trail of light or do maths with meaning: King − Man + Woman. The layout comes from a model that learned only from text, and shows how an AI stores meaning as a place in space.

          • 100kGerman words as points of light
          • 300 → 3dimensions of meaning, projected into space
          • 20nearest neighbours per word, computed in your browser

            Who is circling Mars?

A 3D globe of Mars with its six active orbiters, the moons Phobos and Deimos and the locations of all six rovers. Seven guided stops explain the orbits, and the ground track shows how the planet turns beneath each probe.

Every active satellite on a 3D globe

A real-time globe with day and night, city lights and the Milky Way. Your browser computes every position from CelesTrak orbital data. Scale the satellites up, filter Starlink, OneWeb or GNSS, and follow the ISS.

Can an AI break the cipher?

A reproducible attempt on the world's most famous unread book: substitution solvers and language models for eight historical languages, every run checked against a known cipher and a shuffled text. None scores above the shuffled baseline; the page documents every test.

Every Autobahn roadworks site, with a memory

A crawler snapshots the official Autobahn API every hour and builds the history the API itself doesn't keep. The map shows current roadworks, a time slider replays the past, and charts show which sites run the longest.

Five games for your phone: a car park puzzle with generated levels, a hexagon logic puzzle that is always solvable without guessing, a clean Sudoku, a light puzzle with 120 levels and a daily challenge, and a tower defence you can set up on your kitchen table in AR. Which big city has the steepest road network?

Metres of climb per kilometre of road for 85 German big cities, plus the Austrian state capitals and the ten largest Swiss cities. A 3D relief shows the terrain, next to it the distribution of gradients, the steepest continuous stretch and a ranking. Measured length-weighted along the road network, with Copernicus elevations checked against SRTM and known streets.

                        Otherland at insect scale

A fan project after Tad Williams’ “Otherland”: a garden in which you are as small as an ant. Blades of grass tower like skyscrapers, ants march along their trail, a rose chafer shimmers on a plantain leaf and a dragonfly circles over the pond. Every animal and plant was generated from code in Blender.

Field journal of a drifting Earth

A billion years of plate tectonics on a 3D globe in the style of an explorer’s notebook. A fixed time slider leads from Rodinia through Pangaea to today: continents drift, ice comes and goes, craters and volcanic provinces appear in their time. Fourteen stops explain what happened. The motion comes from the plate model of Merdith et al. 2021; a button extends it up to 250 million years into the future (speculation).
